I used to say that black was my favorite color. In hindsight, I discovered that It was only my favorite color because it was great at hiding my insecurities. In the same way that black clothing hid my lumps and bumps, I would use friendships, relationships, jobs and habits to hide what was really going on inside. Black is said to be figure flattering, but in addition to being slimming, it was dimming my light. I came to learn that the external imperfections that I was trying to hide, were merely a physical manifestation of what was going on inside. Therefore, the true work that needed to be done was an inside job.
The true you is ready to make his or her debut. Will you answer the call?
It’s time to step out of the shadows and into the light. Illuminate your life by engaging with activities and people who feel like sunshine. One way that I hold myself accountable for this is a color-coding system that I use on my calendar. Anything that feels like sunshine, such as quality time with friends, meetings with people who inspire me, or yoga, are all assigned yellow, the color of sunshine. When I look at my month at-a-glance, I know that I’m on the right track when yellow is the dominant color. When you are intentional about devoting your time, energy and attention to these things and people, you begin to glow. And that inner glow emanating from the inside out is the most flattering look of all.
Your light looks good on you.
This week I invite you to release the things you use to disguise the true and authentic beauty of who you are at your core. You will never be more magnetic than when you are authentically you.
